ABOUT
This piece contains our ontological dreams of movement, evolution, our faith in a "better" tomorrow, supported not so much on this imposing symbol of the industrial revolution, the locomotive, but on something much simpler and fundamental, ourselves. Unusually so, we comprehend history, not so much as a number of successive events with a progressive relationship but as events that are interrelated, betraying their apparent chronology, randomly becoming transparent. We got trapped together with all these people travelling in this wagon, in their gestures, in their unalterable postures, travelling non-stop towards an unreachable point in the infinite, where both lines are magically joined.
For the exhibition, "Railroad" (2002), the galleries were adapted with rails, which echoed with music and sonorous effects ("I like things to make noise"). The images of the train, where a diversity of people and situations are reflected, were taken in just one day, while travelling the route from Tulipan, in the Cerro district of Havana towards San Antonio, in the outskirts of the city.
